Sustainable Food Systems

Each one of us depends on the land and the seas of the world to provide the food that we eat each day. A localized food system that produces nutritious foods safely and efficiently is key to a sustainable community.

Sarasota County is working with local farmers, produce distributors, nutrition educators and restaurants to develop a healthy and sustainable local food economy.

Recently, Sarasota County partnered with Mote Marine Aquarium and Monterey Bay Aquarium of Monterey, CA to produce Seafood Watch guide cards for the Southeast U.S., listing the most sustainable seafood choices.
